Abstract charcoal drawings

I have many abstract charcoal drawings available at my Ruby Lane store - made with willow charcoal or compressed charcoal, then massaged on to the paper or the support with sculptural movements.

All charcoal drawings are created from life models, not from photographs. All charcoal drawings are created freehand, and seldom do I use erasers. Once the mark is made, it is made.

Incarnations and reiterations

Because of the immediacy of the marks, and because I do not use erasers, I will go through many incarnations of poses and reiterations until I get the drawing exactly right.

Many times, I will work up a specific pose or drawing into an oil painting or even a sculpture. If you see something you like, please do contact me and see if I can work the charcoal drawing either into an oil painting, or if there is an oil painting you like, then I can work backwards as well, back in to the charcoal drawing.

The compressed charcoal I use is quite large, but I can still encourage a thin line and a massive mark. I quite enjoy it!
